Wine Room Construction Tips
Things to know about wine room construction
If there's one thing you are missing from your den, it's a well built custom wine room. Wine rooms are not built just to look good, they are a functional addition that will help your wine collection age gracefully. A wine room also makes a style statement!
Here are few things to keep in mind when installing a wine cellar in your room:
Choosing the right material - First you will need to select the type of wood you want to use. Typically you can choose any hardware type, from redwood to maple to oak. However, beware of choosing any scented wood like cedar, as it is likely to affect the wine adversely.
Preparing the cellar properly - The age of wine defines its taste, so making sure that your wine can rest and age properly is key. Because of this, it is extremely important to make sure all necessary measures are taken to ensure that your wine room is impervious any abrupt temperature or humidity changes. Sudden changes in temperature can cause wine corks to expand or shrink, allowing the wine to seep out and oxygen to seep in. Ideally, you will want to keep your wine room around 57 degrees with about 50-75% humidity.
Leveling the wine racks column - Leveling your wine rack columns is a vital part of installing a wine room. If the horizontal level of your wines are not properly maintained, the corks could be damaged and your wine ruined.
